2022 Update

"THANK YOU, NORTH TEXAS WOMEN!"

2022 International Mission UPDATE:
A Celebration of Giving -- Jerri Savuto Rescue Center

In 2021 NTC UWF began fulfilling a dream:
to end the traditional female genital mutilation (FGM) practice in villages in the Pokot section of western Kenya. Pauline Ntombura dreamed of a shelter for Kenyan girls. They needed a safe haven to avoid genital mutilation and being sold off in marriage. The bride price is livestock for their severely impoverished families.

Fast forward to 2022. With donations of more than $53,000 from North Texas, land in Africa was cleared, bricks made, a foundation poured, walls erected, and a roof built. Young women who were previously shunned and made homeless after refusing the brutal FGM procedure now have a community and hope.

Having reached 90% of their fundraising goal, the Jerri Savuto Girls Center is almost done. They are now living in the small Methodist church and are able to go to school waiting for the JS Rescue Center to be completed soon. They are almost to their goal and the project is almost complete. The girls will be able to move in very soon.

These pictures show the tremendous progress they have made in the past year!  You can see how large the Center is in the top picture. In the lower picture you can see the building with a roof at last. Soon there will be donations to complete the building with windows and plumbing for the girls to live here and thrive!
